Ford closed its Wixom, Michigan plant in 2007, but last week the company announced it will become a renewable energy park in 2011. It’s a big ghost of a place, but the mothballed Ford Motor Co. Wixom plant got a breath of life and hoopla Thursday with Ford Executive Chairman Bill Ford Jr. and Gov. Jennifer Granholm leading cheers for the 50-year-old factory’s rebirth.
The 320-acre site is to be redeveloped as an industrial park for renewable energy in a $725-million project.
